Describing North Queensland as "paradise", Jenny draws inspiration from life, particularly the female form, drawing and painting with an innovative approach to gestural line an positive thought. Through hands dirty charcoal, to the must wash hands computer and back to hands on paper, Jenny reflects positively on the world image.
Her work evolves from painted layers, which are layers of energy. Different coloured backgrounds reflect differing moods....... when commencing a drawing she tries to have a variety of energy contexts to choose from, often the drawing is wiped and painted over so that a new layer of energy is added and drawn into. Having a non-white background enables her to use off-white and very high coloured chalks as well as the blacks of charcoal. She enjoys the complications that arise from the multi coloured contexts because they allow for the chaos elements beyond our control and give the work a temporal reality.
Jenny draws because she wants to learn to do it better, to discover some secret of the soul, just drawing what's there. She says, "Often we don't know what we are drawing. Meaning is found underneath our emotion and desire and the emotional desires of those that we draw. We draw what we see, what's in front of us, training the hand to draw what the eye sees, what the brain wants to know ... yes endless variations within predeterminedstructure".
Jenny was born in Young NSW in 1955. From a background of farming, she first explored nursing and then went on to become a successful debt collector. She travelled north some time ago and despite frequent visits elsewhere still loves the beauty and freshness of Northern Australia. She is a wife and a mother of two children who currently resides in Townsville, North Queensland.
She has exhibited her work frequently over the years and has another major exhibition coming up at the end of 2007 (see her Exhibition page above). Jenny is a true artist with an endless passion for her work.
